This is not something I claim to be particularly brilliant at... after all, one major factor is that some test gear is very expensive. However, I can do small component changes, and build some "assemble-it-yourself" projects and modules, although my hands are rather unsteady and I have to take it very easy.
My supplier for most components is Maplin, mainly because they sell a lot of high quality parts at reasonable prices.
